Pastor’s picks Feb 2025

Pastor Lamont is nearly always listening to something or watching something to build up his faith, exercise his mind, and pass a little time. Here’s what he’s listened to in the past month.

Higher Things “Drive to School” podcast (youtube.com)

The Higher Things project is typically associated with an annual youth gathering, but in recent years they have been pumping out a lot of great content which is good for kids as well as adults! The “Drive to School” podcast is made up of short topical discussions that you could listen to during your neighborhood commute. This is a link to the YouTube playlist but you can also find it on your favorite podcast aggregator

Oratio (kfuo.org)

On the topic of shortform content, I found a KFUO offering I was not subscribed to, and I have been impressed with it! Oratio (“prayer”… think about Luther’s categories “oratio, meditatio, tentatio”) is extremely quick, under three minutes, daily. I admire Pr. Ken Bomberger for being able to come up with these quick hits every single day.

Luther’s Catechisms (Just and Sinner)

Rev. Dr. Jordan B Cooper has gone through the Lutheran Augsburg Confession and Formula of Concord (names we should recognize!), and has more recently begun a walkthrough of Martin Luther’s Large and Small Catechisms. Why are they important and what should we be doing with them? Reading them, for starters! Dr. Cooper explains why these documents are a big part of our Christian identity.
